“I can’t help feeling so helpless.”

June 28th, 2010

It’s a feeling shared by so many as we approach the start date of the HST and we still don’t have a Democratic answer to it.

The ANTI-HST PETITION due to be submitted early on the 30th rather than on the 5th of July, really exemplifies BC Refederation’s  belief that BC is ready for a change democratically.

No wonder voter apathy is at an all time high in Canada.

SWITZERLAND also has high voter apathy during general elections.  It’s not important to them who runs and is elected.  WHY??? They have absolute control of their politicians.  Politicians are elected as part time employees and are part of a proportional representational system.  But because they CONTROL their politicians, it doesn’t matter WHO the elect. Their frequent initiatives, direct government policy.  The people vote and the vote is BINDING on the government to implement.

The more I look into the Swiss system, the more I fall in deeper love with it and wonder when we are going to have this for ourselves?

IT’S OUR TURN BC!!!  Look to Switzerland for hope!!

We at BC Refederation used them as our model. Join today and support real change.

Carole James meets BC Refederation Leader in Vanderhoof.

June 17th, 2010

Carole James and BC Refederation Leader Mike Summers

Carole James and BC Refederation Leader Mike Summers

NDP Leader Carole James was in Vanderhoof  on June 15 and invited Mike Summers to meet with her.

Meeting was short and pleasant.

However, when asked direct questions on whether she would scrap the HST when/if she assumed power, she said the party would have to have a discussion with the people on the issue.  She would not say that she is against it.

Oh really???  Then what is she doing about this?  Can you say political opportunism?  The NDP is letting the BC Liberals self destruct, which by the way they should.

But not wanting to quash this is dishonest Ms James.

Then Ms. James was asked about getting Federal Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty to back off implementation of the HST until after the HST petition had been vetted and finally disposed of by the people.  It was suggested that using her profile, she might add weight to the letter Mike Summers wrote to Jim Flaherty on June  10th.

Instead of saying yes to the request, she said she would defer it to the Federal Wing of the NDP.

Mike has been in direct contact with Nathan Cullen whose riding has overwhelmingly supported the Anti-HST petition.  So far there has been no response from him on the issue.

On the topic of the Carbon Tax, she was asked if she would do away with it.  She said that there was discussion about it before the election and the people spoke and re-elected the Liberals.  “But I won’t keep increasing it either.”

Small consolation to people living in the north and to truckers who are hit hard with the punishing tax.

It is clear, that while Carole James is a nice lady, she will continue to tax British Columbians with taxes brought in by the Liberals.

Now more than ever, the people of BC need the BC Refederation Party.

It’s official. The Liberals are in a NO WIN situation.

June 9th, 2010

The Liberal legacy of lies, deceit and betrayal of BC Tax Payers has taken it’s toll.

And the arrogance of Liberal leader Gordon Campbell is to blame.  The HST was the final straw as voters in Liberal held constituencies find 62% of voters would sign a recall petition.  That is overwhelming poll numbers and everything I heard when collecting signatures during the ANTI-HST Petition.

John Rustad job on the line?

John Rustad job on the line?

John Rustad I found out, is very vulnerable to a recall.  He is not well liked, but the HST anger has pushed supporters over the edge.

The poll results along with the story are in the Vancouver Sun newspaper.

Liberal arrogance abounds.

May 27th, 2010

What shall we say then to those who are looking for a replacement to the Liberals?

You know that the NDP is about labour and not about democracy.  They believe, like Liberal Terry Lake, in representative democracy.

They believe that elected representatives can know better than you.

The BC Conservatives?  What about them?  They are just more of the same.  They really covet the federal Conservative vote.  They make themselves out to be the “other” choice, but are they?  No.

BC Refederation, sets itself apart from all other political parties.   We believe in representative democracy too.  We believe your MLA ought to SERVE YOU in your constituency.  We believe the job of the MLA is to take care of day to day administration of the province.

But what if you MLA’s  judgment takes a holiday, like we are seeing with the HST???  What then.  Then you the voter will have recourse.  Starting from the day the bill is passed.  There is a 100 day cooling off period where voters can decide to initiate a VOTER VETO of the bill.  The voter’s control the final process.  Intitiative if they don’t like it, and if it’s okay with them they do nothing. And, the results are binding on the government.  They have no choice.

This is NOT government by referendum.  It is CONTROL of government by referendum.

We live in an age of fast moving technology.  Information passes quickly.  What should you be bound to a system that worked in the mid 1800’s with technology as we have today.

We are literate.  They weren’t all that way then.  It’s time to change the system.

BC Refederation is the moderate, centrist alternative.

Liberals trying to flimflam you. The HST is no done deal. Regardless what they say!

May 4th, 2010

Bill Vander Zalm, the man who put recall and initiative questions on the ballot, is a man who KNOWS the political system.  THIS IS NO DONE DEAL!!!

And if nothing else happens, it highlights the need for structural changes in BC’s political system.  It also happens to coincide with BC Refederation’s established policy on PEOPLE controlled politicians.

People today are not stupid or ill-informed.  They are powerless to change government.  BC Refed will change all that in ONE TERM.  Whether or not we are re-elected, we will screw up politics for politicians forever.

Here’s what the Zalm says about done deals in government.

BC Government attempts to intimidate voters backfires as signatures continue to pour in

Delta – The Fight HST citizens Initiative petition to repeal the HST broke the 300,000 signatures mark as of Monday May 3, up an astonishing 155,000 signatures from last week’s total, says Fight HST Lead Organizer, Chris Delaney.

The Initiative, led by former BC Premier Bill Vander Zalm, has now been signed by approximately 10% of the registered voters across BC, Delaney said, with two months left before the July 5 deadline.

But there is still a long way to go, Delaney says, because the 10% total for the Initiative to succeed must be reached in every one of the 85 electoral districts in BC.

Delaney said the sheer size of the number of signatures this early in the petition drive shows that the BC Liberal government’s attempt to discourage and intimidate voters from signing has failed completely.

“If anything, the attacks last week by BC Finance Minister Colin Hansen have backfired, and more people than ever want to sign the petition and send the government a message that they won’t be bullied or threatened into accepting the Hated Sales Tax,” said Delaney.

Former BC premier, Bill Vander Zalm, who is leading the Fight HST forces, said he is encouraged by the number of young people now signing the petition.

“In Vancouver this weekend, we signed up another 2,000 people in one day, and the overwhelming majority were students and young people between the ages of 18-30. That is exciting,” said Vander Zalm.

Delaney says there are now 44 ridings that have reached the Elections BC 10% signature threshold, with 17 of those hitting the internal threshold of 15% set by the Fight HST group.

“Over half of BC’s 85 ridings have already reached the Elections BC target in just under four weeks of canvassing. With eight weeks to go, we are ahead of schedule for making our 15% in all 85 ridings,” Delaney explained.

Delaney says the strongest ridings signing up so far are BC Liberal strongholds like Shuswap, Kelowna, Peace River, Boundary Similkameen, and the Cariboo ridings. “But Skeena is now leading the pack with 30% of registered voters signing the petition. This is crossing all traditional political divides and demographics,” said Delaney.

Delaney says the petitioners still have a lot of work to do in Vancouver and Burnaby where organizers started late.

“We had the same issues in Coquitlam and Maple Ridge as well. But both of those regions are up and running now and catching up quickly. We expect the same will happen in the rest of the province over the coming weeks.”

Well the big party is over. Who’s paying for it?

March 3rd, 2010

Bill Tieleman reports on it on his web site,  and it’s clear that it will be carried on the backs of the poor and the people of BC other than the lower mainland.

What an  utter insult to the 3/4 of BCers who live in other places.

Luckily people in the GVRD are not a stupid as these arrogant Liberals think they are.

It’s a sad day in BC.

We can force the HST to be scrapped, and we have recall that we can use in November.  Send them a message.  They need one.

One has to wonder how long Campbell hangs on now that the OWE-lympics are over.

How will Guy Fawks Day be celebrated.

October 13th, 2009

The BC Refederation Party is celebrating Guy Fawks Day November 5t, 2009, by inviting all parties interested in stopping the HST to the BC Legislative assembly.

Guy Fawks attempted to blow up the English parliament in 1605. He was caught and hung for this act of treason. BC Refederation is all for real change, but blowing up the parliament buildings is frowned on.

So we intend to get as much attention as we can focused on Campbell’s lies and what could be called treasonous treatment of the citizens of BC.

Campbell ran his campaign on the basis that the Liberals were the best money managers.

They are not. They lied and have destined BC’s children to paying for the 2010 OWE-lympics for a long time to come.

Now, the Campbell government wants to strip you of your right to erect a sign they don’t approve of, anywhere close to the OWE-lympic venues or routes.

There are many sign up sheets and petitions to sign. We need your support and need you to volunteer.

Come January, Bill Vander Zalm will be filing papers to commence a province wide initiative. We need volunteers in all 85 constituencies to collect names. It is an awesome task, but we can make a difference if we all pitch in.
