What are the powerful tools that Direct Democracy puts into the hands of the BC voter? Here is a very brief summary:
- Voters have the Right to approve or veto constitutional changes.
- Voters have the Right to propose constitutional changes.
- Voters have the Right to approve or veto any legislation.
- Voters have the Right to propose legislation.
- Voters have the Right to approve or veto treaties and international agreements.
- Voters have the Right to approve or veto actions by the bureaucracy.
- Voters have the Right to approve or veto decisions of the judiciary which amount to “social engineering”.
Referendum results are binding on government.
Contrast this with BC’s present political system.
Voters are allowed no political Rights. Voters are given one privilege which can be withdrawn - they are permitted to vote once every four years. With that one vote they give up control over their government until the next election.
