There are several online petitions against the HST circulating in BC.

BC voters should know that only one of them is the official Citizens Initiative Petition that will lead to a referendum and stop the HST.

The one all BC voters must sign if they want to stop the HST is Bill Vander Zalm’s “INITIATIVE TO END THE HARMONIZED SALES TAX”.

Signing any other petition will not count towards the 10% of voters in each electoral district needed to force a referendum.

BC Refed supports Bill Vander Zalm’s non-partisan Citizens Initiative to veto the BC HST.

Under a BC Refederation government in Victoria citizens would not have to scramble to collect 10% signatures in every electoral district in order to force a referendum or an initiative.  Under BC Refed’s Direct Democracy Act 3% signatures in BC would enable a referendum - the same as in Switzerland.

More important, the result of the referendum will be binding on government.

Under the present farcical NDP requirements the citizens have no RIGHTS.  The government can ignore any referendum result.

This post gives the latest details on the progress of the Citizens’ Initiative to veto the HST.  This post is updated regularly as more details are available from Bill Vanderzalm’s fighthst team.  It is in your own best interest to help in this fight.

Bill Vanderzalm’s application for a petition to force a referendum [or Initiative] has been approved by BC Elections [4 Feb 2010]

The collection of signatures can now begin on 6 Apr 2010.  All signatures must be collected by 5 Jul 2010 - a 90 day period.  If 10% of voters in each of BC’s 85 electoral districts sign the petition, then a provincial referendum must be held, so British Columbians have a way they can kill this HST.

The fighthst team needs one organizer in each of the 85 electoral districts who will guide the signature collectors, and so far 1500 people have volunteered to collect signatures in the province. Please seriously consider offering to be an organizer, or at the least a collector. It is easy to go to www.fighthst.com and offer to collect a few signatures in your neighborhood. Those with extra time could be an organiser.

A caution.  Petitions have been started around BC gathering the names of voters opposed to this tax. Remember that those petitions will be a help on 6 Apr 2010 in locating people who want to kill this tax, BUT THEY ARE NOT OFFICIAL PETITIONS.  VOTERS MUST SIGN THE OFFICIAL PETITION SHEETS CARRIED BY REGISTERED SIGNATURE COLLECTORS STARTING ON 6 APR 2010. Announcements will be made soon in your electoral district telling where and how voters can sign the official petition.

The BC Refederation Party has supported this Citizens’ Initiative from the start because one of the party’s main policies is that voters should have the right to veto government actions when necessary, such as in the case of this HST.  The party has posted a 5 minute HST video on Youtube that is useful for sending to friends.

The BC Refederation Party has made a short 5 minute hst video .  It’s about the key first step we have to take if British Columbians hope to veto Campbell’s latest tax.

This first key step is to gather 10% signatures of voters in all 85 electoral districts in BC. We will achieve that if we organize properly.  The fighthst team has organized the province into areas, each with several electoral districts.  Each electoral district will have a captain and about 50 signature collectors.  In this way each collector only has to gather about 100 signatures to reach the target.

To be one of the 50 signature collectors in your electoral district fill out the form on the fighthst website .  They will contact you.  They have about 1500 volunteers already but some electoral districts need more.
